Introduction

In the Bachelor of Biomedical Science degree students, students will combine the fields of biology, pharmacology and medicine, as well as aspects of anatomy, biochemistry, microbiology, genetics, immunology, cell and molecular biology, physiology and neuroscience.

This biomedical science degree will provide students with a comprehensive understanding of the human body, its structure and its functions. It includes gaining insights how diseases manifest and how drug strategies are used to treat these diseases. Students will also learn the practical skills needed to explore the underlying molecular basis of acute and chronic illnesses, understand how to apply biomedical science research and convey scientific and biomedical science information effectively.

Course Highlights

  • Progress to a Biomedical Honours or Postgraduate Degree Programme

    Graduates of the Biomedical Science Degree may progress to pursue either a Biomedical Science Honours Degree or the Masters of Biotechnology and Bioinformatics with La Trobe University at PSB Academy.

  • Progress to Medical Pathway

    Graduates with MCAT/GAMSAT may be able to progress to medical school, subject to institutions' admission requirements.

    Work with some of the industry's commonly used equipment across our three life science and chemistry labs, which are designed through more than 10 years of teaching life science.

  • GCE ‘A’-Levels minimum 8 in total for the best 3 H2 subjects or, STPM 8.67 in total for the best 3 academic subjects, and min. grade C for Chemistry; OR
  • Local Science-related diploma in relevant areas; OR
  • Local Engineering diploma with Calculus Mathematics background and has a ‘C’ average grade may be considered; OR
  • PSB Academy Foundation Diploma in Life Sciences with an average Pass, and with a Pass in each of the units; OR
  • Advanced standing may be given for approved Diploma courses upon a final Diploma result;

All applications are subject to approval by La Trobe University.

  • GCE 'O' or ‘A’ level English C or above or equivalent; OR
  • IELTS (Academic) score of 6.5 with no individual band score less than 6.0; OR
  • Pearson Test of English (Academic) (PTE) [Test Before 1 Dec 2020] - Overall score of 58 with no communicative skill score less than 50; OR
  • Pearson Test of English (Academic) (PTE) [Test after 1 Dec 2020] - Overall score of 56 with no communicative skill score less than 46; OR
  • TOEFL Internet-based Test (iBT) - 79 with 13 in Reading, 12 in Listening, 18 in Speaking and 21 in Writing; OR
  • Cambridge Certificate of Advanced English (CAE) / Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English (CPE) - Score of 176 with no less than 169 in any component.

English language test scores must be less than two years old from the commencement date of the course at La Trobe University.
