What made you study a Bachelor of Biomedical Science by La Trobe University at PSB Academy?
I wanted to study medicine, and I felt that pursuing a degree in Biomedical Sciences was the most well-equipped
undergraduate course that would prepare me with the necessary knowledge needed for a medical
career. I was drawn to the fact that I could get a globally recognised degree from La Trobe University while
studying in an environment that felt more close-knit and supportive. PSB Academy stood out to me because
it wasn’t just about academics—they seemed to genuinely care about the student experience. I liked that the
structure gave space for both theory and hands-on learning, and it gave me the confidence that I’d be well-prepared,
whether I pursued further studies or jumped straight into the workforce.

Was there a particular moment/experience that sparked your interest in science/healthcare?
I have always been interested in doing something surrounding healthcare ever since I was a child. My parents
are both medical doctors, so they are my main source of inspiration. But other than that, the course itself
has been instrumental in refining my career aspirations. Initially, I was broadly just interested in life sciences,
but studying medicine has deepened my passion for clinical work and human connection. I’ve become
particularly drawn to specialties that integrate both acute care and long-term patient relationships, such as
general practice or internal medicine.

Looking back, what are the most valuable parts of your education and time in PSB Academy?
For me, it was the little things that add up. From learning how to ask better questions, being able to build
critical thinking skills beyond memorising facts and realising the value of staying curious and eager to learn.
The people I met – classmates, lecturers and even mentors made the overall experience even more
meaningful. The most valuable part I took away wasn’t just knowledge, but the mindset to keep learning and
growing, even when things get tough.

Do you feel that the course structure has broaden your horizons in the field of Biomedical Sciences?
Definitely. I used to see Biomedical Sciences as something quite lab-focused, but this course has shown me
how it connects to so many areas—public health, clinical care, and even policy. It’s made me realise how
broad the field really is, and it’s opened doorways of opportunities I wouldn’t have considered before. It’s
given me a better sense of where I want to head next and how I can use what I’ve learned in a meaningful way.

Describe the teaching style and support from lecturers that inspired your learning at PSB Academy.
I genuinely appreciate how supportive and engaging the lecturers were at PSB Academy. Two who really
stood out to me were Dr Renugah and Dr Agnes. I loved their teaching style because they didn’t just focus on
delivering content – they made sure we actually understood it in a meaningful way. They had a way of
breaking down complex topics without losing our interest and they always encouraged us to ask any
questions when in doubt.

I really appreciated how hands-on and clear the lab sessions were. They didn’t just show us what to do, but
explained why each step mattered and how it connected to theory — making the learning experience both
engaging and meaningful.

Do you feel more prepared for the industry or future studies after graduation?
Yes, I do feel more prepared. I am currently a second-year medical student at Monash University. The
foundation in research skills and clinical knowledge developed in Biomedical Science from La Trobe University
has helped me bridge the gap between theory and practice, giving me a clearer understanding of patient-centred care, evidence-based medicine, and the complexities of healthcare system. I feel more confident in navigating future clinical placements and postgraduate pathways because of this.

What advice would you give to someone considering a Biomedical Sciences degree?
Go for it, you would not regret it. Biomedical Science is such a fascinating degree that teaches you how the
human body works at its core, and it opens up so many different paths, whether it’s medicine, research, or
something entirely unexpected. My biggest advice? Stay open-minded, ask lots of questions, and don’t just
focus on the grades—really take the time to enjoy what you’re learning. It’s not always easy, but if you’re
passionate about science and helping people, it’s one of the most fulfilling journeys you can take.
