Introduction

This Bachelor of Nursing (Top-Up) course is designed to enable Registered Nurses (RNs) with a diploma qualification in nursing to expand their professional education to a bachelor’s degree.  This nursing degree consists of core studies and subjects relevant to the context of nursing practice in Singapore.

Students are assisted to expand their knowledge base in the discipline of nursing and apply this knowledge to nursing practice. They are also provided with the opportunity to develop academic and practical skills, and the attitudes needed to comprehend and evaluate new nursing knowledge in the discipline of nursing.

Graduation Requirements

Upon successful completion of all required modules, students will be awarded the Bachelor of Nursing from La Trobe University. The degree awarded will be the same as that to the on-campus graduates.

84 months upon start of the programme

Academic Requirements

  • Applicants must hold a minimum three-year nursing certificate or diploma in nursing from a La Trobe approved and recognised nursing school or tertiary education institution.
  • Applicants need to have a current registration (full or conditional) with Singapore Nursing Board (SNB) as a Registered Nurse.
  • Students must be employed as registered nurses and hold a valid practising certificate (full or conditional registration) from the SNB and work in approved health care or nursing education organisation for the duration of the course.

All applications are subject to approval by La Trobe University.

Minimum Age Requirement

  • 18 years old

English Language Requirement

The course is conducted in English and to successfully complete the degree students need to be competent in communicating in English (writing, reading, listening and speaking). As such, applicants who completed their pre-registration nursing education in a language other than English must provide evidence of their proficiency in the English language; namely an International English Language Test score (IELTs) of at least 6.5 with no band less than 6.0, or approved equivalent.
