Aye Sandy Myint
Why did I choose La Trobe University at PSB Academy for my Nursing Degree?
I chose La Trobe University for its strong reputation and convenient blended learning format, which
combines online and face-to-face sessions—perfect for a working nurse like me. Most importantly, it’s a
well-recognised programme that opens doors, especially if you’re planning to work overseas.
Who inspired your passion for nursing, and how did they influence your career path?
My biggest inspiration has always been my mum. She’s a full-time nurse, and growing up, I watched her
come home after long, tiring shifts—never complaining, always showing up with strength and compassion.
Seeing that day in and day out made me want to do the same. Her passion became mine.
How has the programme prepared you for your role, and which aspects of your nursing education were
most valuable?
The nursing degree helped me grow in ways that really matter on the job—like making sharper clinical
decisions and stepping up as a leader.
Modules such as Nursing and Midwifery Research strengthened my evidence-based practice, while
Engagement in Professional Nursing developed my leadership and reflective abilities.
The programme also taught me valuable time management skills, as I had to balance work responsibilities
with assignment deadlines. I learned to maintain a consistent study routine to avoid last-minute stress—
while still making time for rest and leisure to stay mentally refreshed.
Can you share a memorable moment from your nursing career?
One of the most memorable moments in my nursing career was spotting early signs of a patient’s
deterioration through ECG analysis. Thanks to the critical thinking and practical skills I developed during the
programme, I was able to act quickly—and together, we saved a life. The knowledge I gained in leadership,
chronic illness management, and patient education continues to guide me every day, helping me make
confident and effective clinical decisions.
What keeps you motivated, even on tough days?
What keeps me going is the gratitude patients show and knowing they feel safe in my care. As I walk
alongside them through tough times—offering not just medical treatment but emotional support—their
trust and hope remind me that my presence truly matters. When patients tell me they feel hopeful because
of my care, I know I’ve made a real difference.
What advice would you give to someone considering to further their part-time studies as a Registered
Nurse?
Nursing is constantly evolving; enhancing your knowledge and skills through further study is essential to
keep up with current practices and deliver quality care. Further studies have opened many doors for me,
boosting my confidence to participate in quality improvement projects, take on leadership roles, and step
into management responsibilities. Who knows—I may even pursue a Master’s degree to advance my career
beyond Senior Staff Nurse.
Balancing a full-time job with part-time studies requires discipline, so staying organised and developing
strong study habits has been key to managing both effectively.
