Alumni Class of 2023
School of Engineering and Technology

What is your highest educational qualification and what were you doing before joining PSB Academy?

My highest qualification was N-levels, and I joined PSB Academy shortly after i completed my national service.

How did you hear about PSB Academy, and why did you choose to study here?

I first heard about PSB Academy from a friend. While it was not my initial plan, I soon realised PSB Academy was the ideal place for me to focus, grow, and challenge myself.

What are your career goals for the future and why did you decide to take the course you’re studying now?

I have always been drawn to STEM fields, largely thanks to my dad who is an engineer. From a young age, he inspired me to question how things work and why things work the way they do. My passion for PC building naturally led me toward the electrical side of engineering. Right now, my main career goal is to keep expanding my knowledge and practical skills in the engineering industry. I believe that by gaining hands-on experience and deepening my expertise, I will be well prepared for my future ambitions.

What are some skills you’ve picked up from your Diploma in Electrical Engineering and Technology that you think will be useful in real life or your future job?

This course has equipped me with essentials skills for my future career. I honed my problem-solving abilities by working with microcontroller units and integrating components like LCDs and seven-segment displays. I also gained experience in circuit design, troubleshooting, and using software like Arduino. Being the team leader for my group project also further developed my team management skills, including organising tasks and managing resources for effective collaboration.

Do you think studying at a private institution like PSB Academy has given you an edge or put you at a disadvantage? Can you share any experiences that made you feel that way?

Studying at PSB Academy has definitely given me an edge! Especially with the individual attention and practical learning opportunities it offers. The support from the lecturers has been invaluable, making a positive impact on my student experience. Another advantage is the shorter course duration which allows me flexibility, whether I decide to pursue work experience on my own or jump straight into my degree studies.

Were there any lecturers at PSB Academy who inspired you? If so, who and why?

Mr. Daniel was incredibly inspiring, especially during the Research Project module. He guided and supported us throughout the process, and his genuine commitment to our success made a huge difference in my learning experience. He was always approachable, patient, and willing to go the extra mile to make sure we fully understood the materials and could complete our projects successfully. His encouragement and readiness to help also motivated me to keep going even when faced with challenges.

What’s the most unforgettable moment you’ve had at PSB Academy?

One of my most unforgettable moments at PSB Academy was when we finally submitted our group project. To celebrate completing our diploma, our group decided to take a day trip together. After all the hard work, it was the perfect way to relax and enjoy each other’s company. This trip marked the end of our project and was a wonderful way to celebrate our achievement.

What advice would you give to students who are about to graduate from secondary school and are considering their future career paths?

My advice would be to pick something that genuinely interests you, choose something you can see yourself doing for the next 5 to 10 years. Make sure it’s challenging enough to push your limits, because picking something too easy won’t allow you to reach your full potential. Whenever you face a tough decision or feel stuck on a project, ask yourself, “Would my 7-year-old self be proud of this choice?” If the answer is yes, go for it!
