After graduating from a university in Korea at the age of 25, I was eager to further my studies abroad. My primary aim was to expedite my graduation timeline while pursuing education overseas. While exploring my options, I learned about an agency called ‘Mongs’, where they introduced a few private education institutions in Singapore.
Among my considerations were SIM, JCU, and PSB Academy. Ultimately, I opted for PSB Academy due to its comprehensive computer science curriculum, and it was one of the longest-running programme amongst the three. The campus and faculty received commendable reviews. Notably, the graduation period at PSB Academy was notably efficient, taking approximately two and a half years.
My journey at PSB Academy started with a Diploma in Infocomm Technology, laying a solid foundation for my academic pursuits. After 12 months, I progressed to Coventry University’s Computer Science degree, delving deeper into the realm of knowledge and skills.
What I like most about PSB Academy’s curriculum is its effectiveness. I believe concentrating on my major – computer science, without the elective modules, kept me focused. I didn’t have to spend additional time studying for unrelated modules. Also, the assessments are mostly projects instead of exams, which allows for practical application. Even small projects such as planning, execution, and presentations are good examples that I can show on my resume.
In class, some lecturers intentionally assemble groups comprising individuals from different nationalities for collaborative projects. This practice allows us to gain firsthand experience working with diverse teams, essential for navigating the dynamics of the professional sphere. Beyond the classrooms, communication with lecturers and students is strongly encouraged through dedicated study clubs, enriching the overall academic experience.
Studying in Singapore has been an immensely enjoyable experience thus far. The city-state serves as a vibrant melting pot of diverse cultures and traditions, attracting individuals not only from Asia but also from Europe. This multicultural country offers a unique opportunity to forge friendships with individuals from various nationalities simultaneously—an aspect widely regarded as one of Singapore’s prime attractions. Moreover, Singapore’s safe and secure environment fosters conducive conditions for academic endeavours. From a financial standpoint, tuition fees and living expenses are notably lower compared to countries like USA or the UK.
