The Bachelor of Science (Molecular Biology and Pharmaceutical Science) offers students a specialised pathway focusing on formulation science, medicinal chemistry, pharmacology and therapeutics. Students will study product formulations, explore how formulations are involved in disease management and understand how they work from a pharmacological perspective.
Programme Overview
This Bachelor of Science programme at PSB Academy, created in partnership with La Trobe University, seamlessly integrates molecular biology and pharmaceutical science into an interdisciplinary curriculum tailored to provide a comprehensive understanding of both fields.
Spanning three academic years, the programme starts with the foundational module "Biology of Cell and Organism", introducing the core principles of the biological sciences. These are complemented by studies in chemistry and pharmaceutical formulation, setting the stage for more specialised exploration.
As students progress to the second year, the curriculum delves deeper into biochemistry, molecular biology, medicinal chemistry, and pharmacology. This phase underscores the programme's interdisciplinary approach by integrating knowledge across these fields to understand drug actions and the biochemical underpinnings of health and disease.
The final year challenges students with advanced modules in biochemistry, medical and cell biology, biopharmaceutics, clinical biochemistry and haematology, and human pathophysiology, equipping them with the skills to address complex biomedical challenges. Students will also engage in a comprehensive science project, allowing them to apply their cumulative knowledge in a practical, research-driven context.
Assessment throughout the programme includes a diverse array of methods such as assignments, tests, projects, reports, lab work, and final examinations. This varied approach ensures a thorough evaluation of students' mastery of both theoretical concepts and practical skills
