Wai Teck Yeong
Mr. Yeong Wai Teck is the founder and current Managing Director (MD) of Aegis Building and Engineering Private Limited, a provider of maintenance and conservation services for old and general buildings. With the goal of injecting vitality and dynamism into old buildings, Aegis has amassed a bevy of
prominent and long-term clients such as Shangri-la Hotel and Marina Bay Sands, including important landmarks like the Kranji War Memorial and the Armenian Apostolic Church.
Since its inception, Aegis has never faltered from its principles of business reliability, quality and safety, leading it to attain multiple prestigious certifications (of which includes the BCM ISO 22301 in 2014 and the Singapore Quality Class award in 2020, among many others). One of the ways that Aegis continually strives to uphold its commitment to its values are to engage in upskilling their workers. Indeed, Aegis had attained its status as an Approved Training Organisation (ATO) and Certified On-The-Job Training Center (COJTC) from the Institute of Technical Education (ITE) back in 2018. Aegis ensures that its 150 workers are always trained and equipped with the latest industry-relevant skills required to perform their jobs well, and this has led the organisation to have an unrivalled reputation in the industry. In addition, Yeong strongly believes in the power of technology to better his customers’ lives, which led him to embark on an innovation and digitalisation project with Airtec Private Limited to deliver a low-cost and high-quality home repair service to Aegis’ customers.
Yeong hopes to address the challenges of physical constraints brought about by COVID-19 and the lack of qualified and trained tradesmen with this digital solution. Yeong's decision to start Aegis is indicative of his entrepreneurial spirit and commitment. However, he has been nurturing his passion for leadership and management for a long time prior to Aegis' establishment, with experience as a Business Development Manager at Remmers Far East Pte Ltd and a General Manager at EBT Engineering Pte Ltd. Before entering the corporate world, Yeong was also an esteemed officer in the Singapore Navy, where he was known by his peers as a jovial and outgoing person who is always willing to share his knowledge and expertise with his less experienced team members. From the outset of his career, Yeong has demonstrated and honed his skills in people management, teamwork and leadership, which undoubtedly spurred him to achieve many greater milestones through the years.
Outside of his career, Yeong finds his obligations lie in actively serving the community. He has been involved in grassroots organisations such as the Pioneer Community Club Management Committee (CCMC) and the Pioneer Citizen Consultative Committee (CCC), serving as an executive committee member for more than a decade. Since 2001, he served as the Branch Secretary for the Pioneer Single-Member Constituency(SMC) under Member of Parliament (MP) Cedric Foo Chee Keng. In honour of his dedicated service, he was conferred the Public Service Medal (PBM) in 2008 and subsequently a Public Service Star (BBM) in 2013. Yeong has touched many lives during his tenure as an active member of the CCMC, CCC and Branch Secretary of Pioneer SMC and plans to continue to do so in the future. His contributions toward the public service does not stop there. As a board member of the National Arthritis Foundation (NAF), Yeong has been actively involved in the non-profit organisation's events, serving as the Chairperson for the Fundraising Committee, where he was charged with the crucial task of raising funds and ensuring that there are sufficient funds for present and future needs or events. With Yeong’s cheerful disposition and years of experience in running a company and building strong relationships with his business partners, he has thrived in the role and is excited to use his skills and expertise to bring NAF to greater heights.
Apart from his work, Yeong actively pursues a path of lifelong learning, earning a Master’s in Entrepreneurship in the Singapore Institute of Management (SIM) and enrolling in an executive education program in Harvard University amidst his full-fledged career. In his spare time, Yeong enjoys a good game of golf or a day out fishing at sea. He is also a loving husband and father of three daughters.
