Syafiq Shahul

Executive Director The Institution of Engineers Singapore (IES)

Syafiq Shahul is currently the Executive Director of The Institution of Engineers Singapore (IES) formally established on July 1966 as the national society of engineers in Singapore. IES is the premier engineering Institution in Singapore and is often called upon by the Government to provide feedback on professional engineering matters.

Syafiq holds a Master of Education in Learning Science and Technologies from Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Master of Business Administration from University of Roehampton London, Postgraduate Diploma in Higher Education from National Institute of Education (NIE) and Bachelor of Engineering in Mechanical Engineering (Honours) from Coventry University, Executive Certificate in Finance from Harvard Business School and Executive Certificate in Engineering Leadership from Nanyang Business School.

At IES, Syafiq is responsible for the overall strategic operations of IES Group functions which includes Engineers Singapore Pte Ltd, IES Academy Pte Ltd, IES-INCA Pte Ltd. Of current, IES staff strength of 58 spanned across 16 business functions with the Headquarters Office located at 70 Bukit Tinggi, Off Swiss Club Road, Bukit Timah.

Syafiq have served on the IES Council from 2020 to 2024, helming several portfolios namely from Group Deputy Chairman of International Relations, Professional Development and Professional Engagement; Management Committee Member of IES Academy; Chairman of National Engineers Day 2023/24; Chairman of Young Engineers Committee & IES Student Chapters (incl. 12 Institute of Higher Learnings); Deputy Chairman of IES Publication Committee; etc. His tenure accomplishments on the IES Council includes inking several partnerships, most recently with the Institute of Technical Education (ITE) and National Trade Union Congress (NTUC).

Syafiq was conferred the Best Academia and Industry Collaboration Award 2022 & Best Lecturer Award 2020; received National Books of Record (Largest Rube Goldberg Machine) 2021 accolade for PSB Academy and managing his programmes team and his pool of Associate Lecturers cohesively across five multi-executive programmes. In his role as Co-Chairman of Module Assessment Board (spanning across the academy of est.17,000 students), he drives various regional senior stakeholder engagement and build relationship to strengthen programme development quality assurance in Singapore and regional campuses.

On the International stage, Syafiq was conferred the AFEO Honorary Member title of The ASEAN Federation of Engineering Organisations in 2021 and consecutively awarded the ASEAN Outstanding Young Engineers Award 2022 at the 40th Conference of ASEAN Federation of Engineering Organisation (CAFEO40) in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. He served on the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) as Asia Pacific Regional Representative from 2022/23 and currently member of the School Advisory Committee at Ministry of Education (MOE) Singapore. His track record of leadership and extensive contributions speaks volume about him. Syafiq contributes back to the community and sit on several Boards.
