Overview

Introduction

Paramedics are often the first emergency service on the scene, administering a range of life-saving treatments and offering vital support to individuals experiencing traumatic injuries or medical emergencies. This course prepares students for the realities of delivering emergency and urgent care to an ageing and diverse population, across both pre-hospital and out-of-hospital settings.

At Coventry University, we adopt a ‘learning through exploration’ approach, where simulation and hands-on learning help deepen your understanding of the paramedic field. Through scenario-based teaching, students become active participants in their learning journey.

This method aims to bridge theory and practice, enabling students to develop a strong, applied foundation in paramedic science.

Local Qualifications

An applicant for the programme will normally be expected to possess at least one of the following:
• Diploma in Paramedic Science/Paramedicine (or relevant disciplines) from a local polytechnic or other Private Education Institutions (PEIs).
• For direct entry on the Level 6 course, applicants must have attained 240 credits of Prior Learning, with 120 credits at level 4 and 120 credits at level 5, in a relevant subject area. Holders of a Higher National Diploma (HND) or an equivalent qualification supported by work experience will be considered.

A Mature Candidate who does not possess the Minimum Academic Entry Requirements above, may apply for the programme if they have a minimum of 8 years work experience, including 5 years as a paramedic and the applicant will be assessed on a case-by-case basis by Coventry University.

For non-standard (Mature Candidate) entry, applicants must be at least 30 years old.

English Language Requirement

Where English is not the applicant’s first language, an adequate proficiency in English must be demonstrated. This would normally be a minimum IELTS score of 6.0 or an equivalent English language test.
