What is your highest educational qualification and what were you doing before joining PSB Academy?
I completed my O-Levels before joining PSB Academy’s Certificate in InfoComm Technology, which gave me a strong foundation for the Diploma in InfoComm Technology. I’ve since continued with a Computing Science degree awarded by Coventry University at PSB Academy.
How did you hear about PSB Academy, and why did you choose to study here?
A friend introduced me to PSB Academy and spoke highly of her experience. After hearing her feedback and doing my own research, I felt confident that this was the right place for me.
What are your career goals for the future and why did you decide to take the course you’re studying now?
I chose this diploma because it offers both a strong foundation in IT and hands-on practice. I liked that it covered how technology supports business processes, along with practical modules like programming and systems implementation. I’m interested in pursuing a career in tech, possibly as a data analyst or software developer.
What are some skills you’ve picked up from your course that you think will be useful in real life or your future job?
I’ve learnt how to model databases using SQL and even created simple games using Python. These skills are useful in many areas of IT and have given me a clearer idea of what I enjoy doing. As someone looking into data-related roles, having this technical knowledge is a big plus.
Do you think studying at a private institution like PSB Academy has given you an edge or put you at a disadvantage? Can you share any experiences that made you feel that way?
Yes! Studying full-time has given me more time to focus on improving my skills. The smaller class sizes also make it easier to ask questions and get help when needed. I’ve also learnt a lot from classmates who come from different backgrounds and have more life experience—it’s given me new perspectives.
Were there any lecturers at PSB Academy who inspired you? If so, who and why?
Definitely! The lecturer who inspired me and motivated me was Mr Suryanto. He taught the Security Specialist module and explained things in a way that was easy to follow. He always encouraged us to keep learning and to go beyond what was taught in class.
What’s the most unforgettable moment you’ve had at PSB Academy?
One of my most unforgettable moments at PSB Academy was working with my group mates to create and present a GUI-based game. By the end of the module, we had become really close, and the project gave me a chance to showcase my skills in a fun and meaningful way. We shared ideas, learnt from each other, and received valuable feedback from our lecturer. The supportive environment made me realise how much I had grown—not just academically, but personally as well.
What advice would you give to students who are about to graduate from secondary school and are considering their future career paths?
My advice to students graduating from secondary school is to explore their interests and passions while staying open to new opportunities. Take the time to research various career options, speak to professionals in fields you’re curious about, and consider what aligns with your values and strengths. It’s okay not to have everything figured out right away—growth and learning are part of the journey. Consider courses that give you hands-on experience, and don’t be afraid to step out of your comfort zone. Most importantly, choose a path that excites you, not just what others expect of you, because passion and perseverance are key to long-term success.
