Tell us more about yourself.
Throughout my career, I’ve gained valuable experience in various industries, from manufacturing to construction.
When I’m not working, I enjoy networking with fellow professionals, attending industry conferences, and staying up-to-date with the latest publications. Giving back to the community is also important to me, and I regularly volunteer for community service and grassroots initiatives.
Looking ahead, I’m eager to pursue an MBA, but I recognise that balancing work, school, and personal life can be a challenge. Nevertheless, I’m committed to achieving my goals and am excited about the opportunities that lie ahead. With my drive, determination, and proven track record of success, I know that I can excel in any role I take on.
Can you tell us about your current roles and what made you decide to take on these roles?
As the Vice President of Business Development at One Desk Singapore, I lead the team in identifying and pursuing new business opportunities. I enjoy the challenge of developing and executing strategic plans to drive growth and profitability for the company.
On the other hand, as an Administrative Manager at Hong Rui Constructions, I oversee the company’s administrative functions, including HR (Human Resources) and accounts, to ensure efficient operations. It’s a dynamic and rewarding role in the construction industry.
How has studying at PSB Academy helped your career and personal growth? What is your best memory of school life?
Studying at PSB Academy has been instrumental in my personal and career growth. Despite balancing national service and coursework during my diploma, I was able to complete my service with a diploma at the young age of 19, giving me an early advantage in my career path.
The knowledge and skills I gained during my Bachelor’s Degree not only helped me develop strong networking skills but also allowed me to forge lifelong friendships with like-minded individuals.
My best memory was when a lecturer commended me for my coursework essay, which made me feel accomplished. PSB Academy has provided me with invaluable knowledge and skills that have helped me navigate life’s challenges and contribute meaningfully back to the society.
During your time at PSB Academy, which campus activities did you participate in, and how did they benefit you both personally and professionally?
Throughout my time at PSB Academy, I actively participated in a range of campus activities, including alumni networking events and career guidance sessions. I also made use of the PSB Academy Career Portal, which provided valuable resources for career preparation such as resume and cover letter builders and interview forums.
These activities not only helped me develop my professional skills and network, but also allowed me to connect with like-minded individuals and gain valuable insights into the job market and industry trends. Overall, my involvement in these campus activities has been instrumental in preparing me for the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead in my career.
What were the challenges you faced when you were seeking employment after graduation?
Upon graduating, I was able to leverage my networking connections in the industry to secure job offers. This experience reinforced my belief in the power of building meaningful relationships and tailoring job search strategies to meet each employer’s unique needs.
PSB Academy’s mission is “Committed to providing accessible quality education that nurtures and shapes individuals to enable them to achieve their personal and professional best”. Could you share about your greatest achievement or project to date?
As a committed learner, I have always strived to achieve my personal and professional best, and PSB Academy’s mission of empowering individuals to reach their full potential aligns perfectly with my values.
My proudest achievement to date has been spearheading the digitalisation of a manufacturing and construction company, in which we saw increased efficiency and cost savings. This project required collaboration with various stakeholders, and I’m particularly proud of the positive impact it had on the organisation and its employees.
It was a fulfilling experience to see how education and innovation can transform a company and its people.
How do you juggle between your family, work and studies?
Time management is key as a part-time learner juggling work and family responsibilities. Given my other commitments and capabilities, one of my strategies is assessing what I need to cover and what I can realistically handle. From there, I devised a plan to allocate my time effectively, including blocking out dedicated study time and prioritising tasks.
But even with a solid plan in place, there are times when the workload can be hard to grind. In those moments, I rely on my determination, effort, and hard work to push through and stay on track towards achieving my goals.
What motivated you to pursue a Bachelor’s Degree after graduating with a Diploma and landing a job?
It mostly stems from my desire to continually learn and grow in my field. Additionally, education is a lifelong journey, and pursuing higher education can open up new opportunities and possibilities. I also want to set a good example for my three daughters and show them the importance of education and hard work.
What would be your advice for current students?
My advice for current students would be to stay focused on their goals and priorities and have fun while they’re at it. Enjoy student life as a rewarding escape from the working world, and take advantage of all the opportunities PSB Academy offers.
Put yourself out there and network with your classmates and professors. Join student clubs and organisations, and participate in community service projects.
Lastly, remember, success is not just about good grades or landing a job but personal growth and development. So, embrace the challenges and enjoy the journey.
