After completing my diploma in Biotechnology at Republic polytechnic, I thought it was an exciting pathway to continue, especially with ongoing advancements in science worldwide. I hoped to gain as much knowledge and laboratory skills as possible to better prepare me for the biotechnology industry.
I came across PSB Academy open house for Life Sciences when I was searching for degree programmes relating to Biotechnology. As I had a relevant diploma, La Trobe University offered module exemption, which allowed me to complete the degree in one year, unlike other local universities. This was a major factor contributing to my enrolment at La Trobe University.
The curriculum was highly manageable, and it suited my schedule, and I had sufficient time to revise and attend to other commitments. In addition, the curriculum was efficient in getting the topics covered at a steady pace. I enjoyed the practical laboratory sessions and the crafting of reports based on the experiments. It provided me with hands-on experience and made me understand the concepts behind each experiment better.
The lecturers did their best to ensure each lesson was enriching with concepts. During my final semester, a particular topic was extremely challenging to grasp. Fortunately, since the lectures were recorded, I could rewind and understand the concepts at my pace, which was a major relief. Dr Seah had helped me a lot during my learning journey. He went the extra mile making sure my friends and I understood the concepts by summarising and simplifying them. Given his tight schedule, he was incredibly patient while answering our queries for certain modules.
Aside from the academics, the Life Science programme consultant, Liesa, had also been extremely helpful in my payment procedure for the trimester fees. She went the extra mile in providing me with the necessary information in handling the transactions as I had some unforeseen difficulties during that period.
