Before joining PSB Academy, I worked full-time as a chef with a culinary diploma from SHATEC. Although I enjoyed the culinary world, I wanted to expand my career into something broader. I found PSB Academy through a Google search and decided to pursue a Diploma in Global Supply Chain Management, as the location was convenient for me.
I initially chose supply chain management because I wanted to explore the logistics behind the F&B industry. My goal was to move beyond the kitchen and into the broader world of logistics. During my course, I secured an industrial attachment with a marine shipping company, which opened new doors for me.
Although I originally had plans to focus on the F&B warehouse side, my internship in the shipping sector sparked a new interest. Now, I am working full-time with the same company, and I’m excited to develop my career in marine shipping.
The shorter course duration was a major advantage, allowing me to quickly enter the logistics industry without spending two to three years re-skilling. My lecturers, Ms Agnes Loh (Project Management) and Mr Daniel Lim (Marketing), were incredibly supportive and invested in our success. Their practical, hands-on teaching made learning both enjoyable and relevant.
One of the modules that really opened my eyes was Service Operations Management. Coming from a service industry like F&B, where customer service is key, I thought I had a good understanding of service concepts. But this module taught me the deeper aspects of how services are delivered. It’s not just about the product you give to the customer (in my case, food). It’s about co-producing an “experience”. As a chef, I wasn’t just serving food, I was crafting a moment for the customer. This understanding of service quality and relationship management has helped me transition smoothly into the logistics field, where managing client relationships and expectations is just as important.
Looking back, the skills and experiences I gained at PSB Academy helped me make a successful career transition and gave me the confidence to keep pursuing my goals. To anyone finishing secondary school and considering their next steps, I’d advise choosing the right subject, working hard, and staying persistent. Finding the right path and not giving up are keys to success.
