Alumni Class of 2025
School of Business and Management

As a hospital coordinator, I was already handling tasks that involved human resources (HR), like managing staffing schedules, team communication, and onboarding new colleagues in my department. I started to see how important HR is to create a supportive, people-first workplace. But I needed to build up my HR knowledge to fully contribute and grow into that space. That quiet, persistent feeling of wanting to do more kept growing.

A colleague of mine, who’s also an alumna of PSB Academy, recommended I check it out. That’s when I found the Diploma in Business Administration (Human Resource Management). What I liked was that PSB Academy offered a part-time study mode, allowing me to continue working full-time while picking up practical skills I could use at work straight away.

I was nervous about returning to school after being out of the classroom for years. I wasn’t sure if I could keep up while juggling work and life.

But once classes began, I realised I had nothing to fear. The lecturers were approachable and quick to respond whenever we had questions. My classmates were also working professionals, so we naturally became a support network – sharing notes, keeping tabs on deadlines, and motivating each other through busy weeks. It never felt like I was doing it alone.

At home, my siblings were a big part of my support system too. I live with them in Singapore, and they helped with chores and gave me a quiet space to study. I used to fly back to Malaysia every two months to visit my dad, but that had to slow down during my diploma. We made it work, and he was very understanding.

Since completing my diploma, I’ve been entrusted with more responsibilities at work, from staff training to coordination. The Management and Talent Development modules have also helped me improve some of our workflow processes and how we train new hires in our department. The diploma also opened up conversations with HR about future career paths within the hospital – opportunities I wouldn’t have been considered for before.

Now that I’ve graduated, I feel proud and accomplished. It feels great to achieve something you once doubted you could do. I’m now more confident, more open to challenges, and no longer afraid of stepping out of my comfort zone. I’ve also realised that learning doesn’t stop after school. Even as a working adult, it’s possible to keep growing.

The part-time programme at PSB Academy gave me the tools, structure, and support to make it work, without putting my life on pause.

If you’re thinking about upskilling, just take the first step – it’s okay to be scared or unsure, but once you start, you’ll build momentum and surprise yourself with what you’re capable of.
