Lim Charlene Hui Collado

Class of 2024
School of Business and Management

After completing my Nitec in Business, I took a gap year to explore my options and plan my next steps. Through online research and recommendations from friends, I discovered PSB Academy. Its strong reputation, coupled with its emphasis on practical learning, made it the perfect choice for my further studies.

PSB Academy also offers part-time Diploma in Business Administration (Digital Marketing), which was what I needed to balance my job and studies while gaining a specialised skill set. The experienced lecturers and the diverse student community makes it a great place to meet people and build connections that could help in my career.

I took interest in digital marketing because of its growing demand and versatility. Every business needs an online presence in this day and age, and I saw this as a valuable skill to have. While I currently work in customer service, my diploma in digital marketing gives me the option to freelance or explore different industries in the future. It’s my way of keeping my options open while gaining real-world experience in my day job.

Through the diploma, I gained hands-on experience with essential digital marketing tools like Google Analytics and social media platforms, learning how to track performance and analyse audience insights.

Learning how to interpret consumer behaviour through data was eye-opening, and I even earned my Google Analytics Individual Qualification (GAIQ) certification. I also learned to craft engaging content tailored to target audiences. Beyond technical skills, the course helped me sharpen my critical thinking and problem-solving skills, as digital marketing requires constant adaptation to changing trends and consumer needs.

Balancing work and study weren’t easy. I worked in the morning, attended classes at night, and sometimes took days off to focus on school. The blended learning format at PSB Academy helped a lot, allowing me to manage my time more effectively.

The support from my classmates and lecturers also made a huge difference. I’ll never forget how my groupmates, despite working full-time themselves, were understanding when I missed a meeting due to overtime at work. Also, while all the lecturers were very approachable and helpful with our curriculum, Mr Daniel Lim in particular, understood the struggles of part-time students attending lessons after work. He kept his lessons engaging with interactive activities like Kahoot, making learning more dynamic and enjoyable, even after a long day at work. He also told us to feel free to take calls during class if it was work or family-related, showing his understanding of our commitments. His encouragement and teaching style made learning enjoyable.

To anyone unsure about their next step, I’d say to take life at your own pace. Success isn’t about how fast you get there but about learning and growing along the way. No matter how tough the journey is, keep going. Every step forward counts, and you’re stronger than you think.
